Niyi, a fitness enthusiast met his wife at a Club in Downtown Chicago in October 2011. She had just passed the Illinois Bar Exam after graduating Law School from Notre Dame. They exchanged numbers and he called her the following day, followed by lunch later that week and they have been inseparable ever since.
How did you propose?
I told her I was having a dinner party for my birthday, September 25th, 2013. Everybody was invited to the Mayor’s room at the Chicago Fire-House Restaurant in the South Loop of Chicago, IL. My brother and sister both flew into town and everybody knew about the upcoming engagement but her. She kept on giving me a hard time about spending so much money for my birthday not knowing it was a bigger occasion than just that.
How did you decide on a ring?
I did not get much help choosing a ring from friends because throughout the course of our relationship before the engagement, my wife had made it clear in passing the styles of rings that she liked or disliked.
What were you in charge of during the planning process?
I was in charge of ensuring all the groomsmen were made abreast of their duties and where they were required to be at all times. I was in charge of making sure that the wedding program was given to the officials. I was responsible for securing an MC for the event.
Advice for other grooms
I advise grooms to plan ahead and make sure they cover all the basics. I also suggest you prepare your mind to exceed whatever budget you already created for the wedding costs particularly as the day approaches. The wedding expenses grow exponentially as the date approaches and even during the wedding weekend and you have no time to think about it.
